Class Task #8a – Illustrator Intro

Heart thing

Class Task #8c – Pathfinder Palette

Shape Mode

Class Task #7 – Layer Masks…Like Face Masks

 Mask #1    Mask #2

What happens when you paint part of the layer mask
…black? …white? …grey?

When you paint the layer mask black the picture behind the front picture shows up.

When you paint the layer mask white the picture that you painted over with black reveals.

When you paint the layer mask grey, the two pictures that you had at the start reveal themselves in a blending way.

Class Task #6 – Photo Editing Challenge

[Problem #1]

How did you do it?

I fixed Mr. One Eyed by using the magic wand and selecting the area of his eye. I had copied, pasted it and by using free transform I flipped his eye around to get it at the right position. I used the eyedropper tool to sample the colours I needed to blend it with, then I took the smudge tool to blend the colours so that I get it at the right combination of the shade.

My Solution:
Original Mr.One Eyed Cat with Two Eyes

[Problem #2]

How did you do it?

I repaired the newspaper first by selecting the picture of Ho. After, I free transformed it and flipped it, also I deleted any facial parts I didn’t need. I had to zoom in all the way so that I could see the tiny square boxes with each different colour in it. By doing so, it helped me to blend the colours in with almost the same shade. When using the smudge tool I would choose which tickness I needed for the brush to be and I chose the mode( darken, lighten, colour, etc.) I copied and pasted the margin of the newspaper to get a more real feeling to it by adding all the wrinkles. But I was careful that I don’t repeat them to much, which then it will look photoshoped. Last but not least I had to use the burn tool to make the pasted picture look more darker because it was fairly lighter then the rest of the original picture. In the end my finished product shows my hard work!

My Solutions:

Class Task #5 – Born Into Brothels

1) How did you enjoy the film? What stood out for you?

This film was very toughing, emotional, and heartbreaking. It made me wonder how fortune and privileged we are here in Canada, Toronto. I enjoyed this film by realizing how much we have and dont appreciate it. The think that stood out to me was that the lady Zana Briski wanted to share her knowledge of photography to the little kids who aren’t able to get a proper education.

2) Did you learn anything new about photography, life, people? What?

I learned that people have a lot of emotions which they can not talk about to there pears. Which then they express there emotions through art, in this case through photography.

3) How do you think the world needs to change? How important is this?

The world that we live in isn’t perfect, we all have flaws and things that we can improve. The world needs to change many things, which include the environment, health, business, crime, food etc. We need to improve the environment by keeping the streets clean to prevent pollution. Even if people don’t have homes to live in, still can live outside and know that it is safe enough to not to caugh a disease from pollution.

4) What are you willing to do today to be a part of that change?

I’m willing to take my valuable time to clean up the streets of Toronto for a more cleaner environment.  In all my 15 years of living, I’ve always despised people who insist in polluting the earth. I’m ready to take action for our mistakes. I’ll be waiting here with a garbage bag, gloves until people realize what is happening to mother earth.

5) Do you know a good song/rap/poem with good lyrics about change in the world? Post a link or lyrics to share it with us.

6) Pick a non-profit organization that is important to you. Why is this important to you? Do they have a website?

The Walt Disney Company is a profit organization which really does make a difference in the environment. I really believe in this organization even though they are a profit organization. The money that is donated to the organization goes toward the Invest with EnvironmentalityTM . Which then they use the money to plant trees, picks up garbage, and encourages young children to older people to lend a hand. This is very important to me because I have a great believe in helping out when it come to the environment. All the waste we don’t recycle and throw around on earth isn’t right, because it will all come back and haunt use in the future. It will cause drastic climate change, and cause other non normal effects right here on earth. ( I know this is suppose to be a Non-Profit Organization but I truly believe in this one because Media Arts is a way to express your feelings and this is the only way so people will understand how much it means to me about an cleaner environment.)

7) What ideas do you have for media arts projects that we could do individually or as a class to help contribute to these organizations that are important to us?

We could make posters, banners so that the school can get involved in knowing what is happening to mother earth. Then, we should have a day to take action on the conflict that we are trying to solve.

Class Task #4 Understanding Resolutions

1) Will a 300 dpi image or a 72 dpi image be clearer when printed out at the same size? How come?

The 300 dpi image would be more clearer, because the dots per inch are very small which make the picture more clear and easy to see the details.

2) What would a picture created at 1 dpi look like?

If a picture was created at 1 dpi, you wouldn’t be able to see the picture because it is so blurry. There wouldn’t be as much detail as for 300 dpi. The one I prefer is the 300 dpi because of its tiny little squares which show almost every detail in the picture clearly. The reason the picture wasn’t clear was because of low resolution.

Class task #3 The Selection Tools

Fruit Feather Fruit Wand Fruit Lasso Fruit Combo

1. What combination of tools did you use to isolate the fruit in “fruit_combo.jpg” and where in the image did you use which tool?

The combination of tools that I used to isolate the background was the magnetic lasso tool, eraser tool, and the magic wand. The magnetic lasso tool was used for out lining the fruit bowl. The eraser tool was used to erase any spots I missed. Last but not least, I used the magic wand to experiment on one part of the fruit bowl.

2. Of the methods you used to isolate the fruit in the 3 pictures. Which method did you find most effective in this case?

From the three methods I used to isolate the fruit bowl, the most effective method was the Magnetic lasso tool.  This is because this tools makes life so easy with its magnetic technique.   All you had to do was just to go around the fruit bowl and the magnetic lasso did it for you.

3. Experiment with the following:
After you make a selection in the menu and go to
     a) Select > Modify > Expand
     b) Select > Modify > Contract
     c) Select > Feather
What do these do? Post a fourth image indicating that you know what feathering does.

a) Select > Modify > Expand is the tool that helps expand on the selected image. When I used the magic wand tool and the picture was selected, clicked the expand tool and the selected area became bigger. The higher the number was the more the selected area would expand or grow. When inversed and entered the pictures edges became very smooth and had more rounded curves. Also, it looked like it had a glowing outline around the fruit bowl. Basically it makes the selected area bigger.

b)  Select > Modify > Contract> Contract is when the selected area starts to shrink and become smaller.

c)Select > Feather> The feathering tool helps the image to look more smoother. It makes the picture glow and stand out. It has a more natural, and vibrant feel to it.
