1a) What is the feeling you wanted your gum package to portray? How did you achieve this?
The feeling that I wanted my gum pack to portray is the sense of a very fresh breath that tingles when you eat it. I wanted it to feel like a very cool and icy feeling too, when you looked at it. The way I achieved it was by making the ladies lips standout and have a cool breeze coming out of her mouth. While the breeze was controlling your eyes direction I wrote in “Can you handle the Breeze” which explained what I was aiming towards.
b) Who are you targeting your gum to? How did you achieve this?
I am targeting my gum to teenagers who love having fresh and cool breath throw-out the day. I achieved this by using neutral colours like light blue and some pink so that it just doesn’t have to be targeted to only one gender group.
c) What area in your design did you use Photoshop?
The area of design that I used Photoshop for was to make the breath also to change up the background colour of the picture. Also I had to remove some lettering that was origonaly there when I found the picture.
d) More marks are given to designs that are custom created and not just taken from free vectors or free stock photography. What part of your gum package did you custom design?
The custom design that I made was the breath using different types of brushes inorder to make it look more real. Also I had designed the different lettering. First by selecting a font style that I liked then using the nodes to move around and create the shape that I was looking for.
My logo/ tattoo represents my cost. Cost means the deeper meaning of my religion, which is Punjabi, Sikh. Not everyone is just Punjabi, Sikh there are other little branches connected to it. Think about a tree when wondering what my religion is. The roots are Indian, the trunck is Punjabi, the branches are Sikh and the little branches are the cost. There are many costs like Saini, Jatt, Tharkan, etc. I am Punjabi, Sikh, Saini and my last name is Singh. This logo represents who I am and what I believe in.
b) How did you design your logo/tattoo to represent this?
All I did was make two S’s and overlap them to create a cool effect. The two S’s represent Singh, Saini. Singh, Saini is almost like my company name and I want to advertise my company name inorder for my company to be known. The first “S” is big, bold and it looks like a swan. I made it like that because I’m a very peaceful and downtoearth person, and swans are just like that too. Swans are animals who meet and greet other swans there intier livetime. The second “S” was to make my logo look more attartive and emphasize the first “S”. After the words Singh, Saini, there was a star at the end which gave my logo some colour. It really needed it also it helped to finish off my logo. The star makes the readers eyes look into that direction and gives the sign that is where the logo ends.
a) What were you trying to express and how did you achieve this?
The feeling that I was trying to express is loneliness. I chose this feeling because I wanted to relate it to students at West Humber. Some students here at West Humber don’t have any friends or students did have friends but something went wrong in there friendship and I was trying to penetrate that. I achieved this by taking a picture of myself and darkening it to give it the feeling of loneliness, or like making it stand out from the rest of the picture. I chose words which describe loneliness and made them look like I was mouthing them out. So, that it looks like I’m very sad and I’m talking, or venting to myself.
b) What filters did you use and where?
I used the Plastic Wrap, Film Grain, and the Smudge Stick filters. The Plastic Wrap filter was used at the bottom to make the background snow look more real. The Film Grain was used at the top of the picture were the sky is. I used that because I didn’t want the sky to be so bright with colours which then that will take away from the feeling that I was trying to penetrate. Last but not least, I was using Smudge Stick on my face to make it appear like I was the main point of the picture. Also, I didn’t want my face features to show to specifically because then it would show to much emotion.
b) What layer blending mode did you use and where?
I used many layer blend modes around the lettering part. I used the lighten, soft lighten, darken just to name a few. I used it to make the breath look more real, so I had to make some parts light and some parts dark.
c) What special brush did you use and where?
I also used many special brushes to make the breath look more real. To name a few, I used brush numbers 55, 96, 100 and many different sizes to get the right effect.
I fixed Mr. One Eyed by using the magic wand and selecting the area of his eye. I had copied, pasted it and by using free transform I flipped his eye around to get it at the right position. I used the eyedropper tool to sample the colours I needed to blend it with, then I took the smudge tool to blend the colours so that I get it at the right combination of the shade.
My Solution:
[Problem #2]
How did you do it?
I repaired the newspaper first by selecting the picture of Ho. After, I free transformed it and flipped it, also I deleted any facial parts I didn’t need. I had to zoom in all the way so that I could see the tiny square boxes with each different colour in it. By doing so, it helped me to blend the colours in with almost the same shade. When using the smudge tool I would choose which tickness I needed for the brush to be and I chose the mode( darken, lighten, colour, etc.) I copied and pasted the margin of the newspaper to get a more real feeling to it by adding all the wrinkles. But I was careful that I don’t repeat them to much, which then it will look photoshoped. Last but not least I had to use the burn tool to make the pasted picture look more darker because it was fairly lighter then the rest of the original picture. In the end my finished product shows my hard work!
1) How did you enjoy the film? What stood out for you?
This film was very toughing, emotional, and heartbreaking. It made me wonder how fortune and privileged we are here in Canada, Toronto. I enjoyed this film by realizing how much we have and dont appreciate it. The think that stood out to me was that the lady Zana Briski wanted to share her knowledge of photography to the little kids who aren’t able to get a proper education.
2) Did you learn anything new about photography, life, people? What?
I learned that people have a lot of emotions which they can not talk about to there pears. Which then they express there emotions through art, in this case through photography.
3) How do you think the world needs to change? How important is this?
The world that we live in isn’t perfect, we all have flaws and things that we can improve. The world needs to change many things, which include the environment, health, business, crime, food etc. We need to improve the environment by keeping the streets clean to prevent pollution. Even if people don’t have homes to live in, still can live outside and know that it is safe enough to not to caugh a disease from pollution.
4) What are you willing to do today to be a part of that change?
I’m willing to take my valuable time to clean up the streets of Toronto for a more cleaner environment. In all my 15 years of living, I’ve always despised people who insist in polluting the earth. I’m ready to take action for our mistakes. I’ll be waiting here with a garbage bag, gloves until people realize what is happening to mother earth.
5) Do you know a good song/rap/poem with good lyrics about change in the world? Post a link or lyrics to share it with us.
6) Pick a non-profit organization that is important to you. Why is this important to you? Do they have a website?
The Walt Disney Company is a profit organization which really does make a difference in the environment. I really believe in this organization even though they are a profit organization. The money that is donated to the organization goes toward the Invest with EnvironmentalityTM . Which then they use the money to plant trees, picks up garbage, and encourages young children to older people to lend a hand. This is very important to me because I have a great believe in helping out when it come to the environment. All the waste we don’t recycle and throw around on earth isn’t right, because it will all come back and haunt use in the future. It will cause drastic climate change, and cause other non normal effects right here on earth. ( I know this is suppose to be a Non-Profit Organization but I truly believe in this one because Media Arts is a way to express your feelings and this is the only way so people will understand how much it means to me about an cleaner environment.)
7) What ideas do you have for media arts projects that we could do individually or as a class to help contribute to these organizations that are important to us?
We could make posters, banners so that the school can get involved in knowing what is happening to mother earth. Then, we should have a day to take action on the conflict that we are trying to solve.
1a) What qualities of your magazine cover make it effective? (eg. What makes it eye catching?, What about it promotes curiosity?, How is it visually pleasing?, What makes it easy to understand?)
The qualities of my magazine that make the cover look more effective is that I’m focusing on one thing, like making the words look more visible. The first thing you see on the page is the title, so then your eye goes towards the subtitles. The magazine makes you wonder what you’ll see in the inside because it has a celebrities on the front cover page. It is visually pleasing because it isn’t so cluttered. It makes it easy to understand beacuse the colour and the font style of the words on the magazine help the readers.
